Childhood Passion Turned into Profession: My Journey of service to humanity

As a student of biology in class 12th, like most of my classmates, I also decided to be an Allopathic doctor, but the circumstances were not in my favour. As the career of everybody has a beginning, mine also started with curiosity and an eagerness to learn. What began as a simple interest soon became a fulfilling profession, filled with challenges, milestones, and valuable lessons. Let’s discuss the path I walked, the hurdles I overcame, and the vision that keeps me moving forward.

Dr Vijay Kumar | Administrator, Immuno Diagnostics
1. Humble Beginnings:

I have to work with my doctor friend Ak Lal in his clinic as his assistant. On 7th April, 2000, I started working in a medical laboratory, Immuno Diagnostics, under the guidance of an ex-scientist of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre.

2. Pivotal Moments That Shaped Me: started my education journey again and completed my Master's in Business Administration and got the prestigious honorary Doctorate award in 2017 from Alliance International University.

3. The Skills I Had to Build:

I was given the opportunity to work as an administrator to lead my management team to get ready for the audit by the team of assessors of the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories.

But I was not confident enough to do justice to this post. So I joined ISO 15189:2012, a 4-day Laboratory Management Systems and Internal Audit Training program at Medical Education and Learning Point. Later, I completed ISO 15189:2022, also a 2-day Laboratory Management Systems and Internal Audit Training program from the same institute.

Meanwhile, I was also allowed to lead the human resource department, but this time also I was not confident enough to do justice to this post either. So I joined the Certificate Programme in Advanced HR analytics at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM-Rohtak) and thus, learning and adaptability became my superpowers.

4. Facing Setbacks and Pushing Through:

As every journey has setbacks, I faced the challenge regarding Biomedical waste compliance. So I joined the course “Standard Precautions: Waste Management” by the World Health Organization to recover and move forward stronger.

5. Achievements That Make Me Proud:

As the fruit of our dedicated teamwork under the guidance of Dr Ajay Kumar, ex-scientist (BARC), within two decades, Immuno Diagnostics shifted to a wonderful company-owned building and started appx 200 NABL-accredited medical tests, appx 10000 per day testing on state-of-the-art world-class instruments, and became one of the largest B2B immuno assays laboratories in northern India.

6. Who Helped Me Along the Way:

I would like to thank Dr. Ajay Kumar, NABL consultant Mr. Dinesh Jain, legal consultant Mr. Amrish Kumar Tyagi, and all my colleagues and family members who supported me.

7. Where I Am Now – and What’s Next:

Currently, I am working as an administrator in the medical laboratory, and I would like to help the medical industry by writing books, blogs, etc.

Conclusion:

The professional growth can not be analyzed as on your wealth, it is counted as the satisfaction you feel when you are moving towards your mission to help millions of people. The road to professional growth is never a straight line. It’s a journey of learning, evolving, and staying open to change. I hope my story inspires others to embrace their path with confidence, no matter where they start.
